I love swaps, and I love sewing bags - or purses if you wish, call it what you want, but we all know we can't get enough of them! So I am hereby inviting all my readers to join me in a big swap. If you're interested in taking part, send me an email and I will pair you up with another one of the participants.
Please title your email "Bagaholic Swap 2009" and include your name and postal address. You should also include some information to make it easier for your swap partner to discover your likes and dislikes, list your favourite colours, fabrics, what sort of style you like, if there is anything you really cannot stand... you get the picture! I'll complile a post with all the participants' website/blog links too, so feel free to include that info also.
The cutoff date for signing up will be 31st of August or sooner if I reach 20 participants before that, I will then match you up and send you details of your swap partner by the 14th of September. (Sorry I had to change this a little since I suddenly remembered I am away between the 24th of August and the 9th of September!) You then have two weeks to make and post your bag, it should be posted by the 28th of September. I will set up a Flickr group where we can share pics of WIPs and received items.
The swap is open to anyone, anywhere in the world. As long as you are willing to post internationally, you're free to sign up! By signing up you agree to keep up your end of the bargain and send a home made handbag to your swap partner. Please don't sign up if you're not 100% sure you can play by the rules - that would be really unfair on the rest of the participants. You will also be expected to post details of your received gift either on the Flickr group or your blog (or both) as part of the fun is to see what other people receive, and also it is nice for your swap buddy to see that their gift arrived safely.
As always, you might end up receiving something that is not 100% to your taste. That is the nature of these swaps. To avoid this please include as much information for your swap buddy as possible! And always keep in mind that the item you receive will have been made with love and the best intentions. The bottom line: don't send anything you wouldn't be happy to receive yourself!
Since this is my first time organising a swap, I am setting a limit of 20 participants, so be quick!
UPDATE: 20 people have signed up, so sign-up is now closed and I will be matching everyone up in pairs very soon!

I was all set to sign up and then I realized that I start college again in a week, so probably not the best idea. I look forward to seeing what people make
I would love, love, love to participate, but this time of the year doesn't permit it.
When you start another one, I'll sign up for it.
Hugs
Is the swap for locals only? I live in the US, so I think I would have to post it sooner in order to get it to you in a timely manner. I would love to join in the fun!!!
The swap is for anyone, anywhere in the world. As long as you are willing to post internationally, you're free to sign up! And the "send by" date will be the same for everyone :)
Petchy,
Could you match up some of us in the US together, so we don't have to ship internationally? I'm in AZ and would love to participate but I'd rather not have to ship over seas, especially if I could ship in the US. This sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks for inviting us!
Rachelle: Sorry, that just wouldn't be fair on the rest of the people playing. Anyone signing up should be prepared to post overseas, since most likely there will be people playing from all over the world. I'm afraid that is the only way to make it fair to everyone.
How much money should be spent on the bag?
Is there a price range?
Other swaps I have done (I've only done 3) have a range so one person spends $20 and others $100+
I love making high end bags should I be thinking of a simple bag and not the kind I make all the time?
I wouldn't go overboard; I'd say somewhere in the region of USD $25-50 maybe? I don't want this to be a swap where people don't feel like they can afford to take part - and you don't always have to spend a lot of money to make something nice!
this is such a lovely idea. I think I'll have to pass for now as I'm a beginner when it comes to sewing and would be horrified if my bag was a disappointment. At least after this first swap there will be a gallery and details on blogs for how they were made. It'd certainly boost my confidence to say 'this is the design I'm going for in a mix of the colours you love'.
I wish I could sew!! Good luck everyone! Sounds like a great idea!
This is a great idea and I wish I could sew as well! I'll just have to watch the bags that others do and show them to my mom to make....
This sounds super, I hope you all post pics and links to them... I'd join but I'm only a beginner (teaching myself for the last 4 months) Maybe next time I'll have some more experience behind me :) I can't wait to see what you all make :)
I love participate, if there is still,
I'd love to participate if there is still space. Bags are my favourite projects. I will email you.
this is going to be a lovely swap!! :)
